Health Care Benefits
State employees have a variety of choices for medical, dental and vision insurance. Employee premiums
have remained relatively stable and the offered plans provide exceptional value to our employees and
their eligible dependents. Enrollment in any medical plan includes pharmacy benefits and employees
have the option of opening Flexible Spending Accounts and may purchase Short-Term Disability (STD)
insurance. Basic life insurance is provided by the State and employees have the option to purchase
supplemental life insurance. You are eligible for enrollment into these programs after a brief 90-day
waiting period.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
This no-cost, confidential assistance program is designed to help employees and their eligible
dependents address personal difficulties such as emotional problems, substance abuse issues,
relationship and family crises, and legal and financial worries—before the problems spill into the
workplace. In addition to counseling, EAP offers work-life benefits and referrals to local affordable
resources.
Wellness Program
Additional health benefits and resources are offered through the State of Arizona Wellness Program. The
program is committed to helping employees, retirees, and their spouses and dependents be well today and
stay well for life. Wellness provides free or low-cost educational programming, health screenings, interactive
web tools, and health-related services. Other campaigns organized by Wellness include the Mayo Clinic Health
Assessment, Annual Flu Vaccines, Mini Health Screenings, and the Tobacco Free Program.
Retirement and Long-Term Disability (LTD)
State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the
State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a
27-week waiting period. The ASRS has been providing retirement security for over half a century.
The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the
option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred
retirement investments.
Holidays and Leave
State employees receive 10 paid holidays and may earn an additional 13 to 21 days of vacation leave
per year, depending on the employee's tenure with the State. Employees are also provided 12 days of
sick leave per year, of which, up to 5 days can be used for the care of eligible family members.
Additional leave policies ensure employees have the tools to manage their personal and work lives
surrounding such events as parental leave, jury duty, and military service.
Flexibility
We have award-winning options – from flexible work hours, to telecommuting
one or more days a week or working from home – depending on the position.
