Freedom to Work Program
Disabled individuals who want to work but are worried
about losing medical and Social Security benefits may
qualify for the Freedom to Work program.
This program is for disabled individuals ages 16 to
65 who work and whose own monthly countable income from work is $2,167 or less. This
income limit is 250% of the federal
poverty level which is readjusted each year –
usually upward -- at the beginning of April. There is no
limit on resources. An applicant must be a U.S. citizen
or qualified immigrant and an Arizona resident. A Social
Security number is required.
An applicant for this program must be working and
ineligible for services under other AHCCCS programs.
Monthly premiums range from zero to $35. Call (602)
417-6677 in the Phoenix area or 1-800-654-8713, Option 6
in the rest of the state.
Centers for Independent Living (CIL) serve disabled
people of all ages and types of disabilities. They are
private, non-profit, non-governmental organizations. The
majority of staff and Board of Directors of CIL's are
people with disabilities. Arizona has five CIL's:
