My spouse is a member of
the Arizona Long Term Care System
(ALTCS), so how do I find out more about becoming a paid
caregiver?
If you or your spouse is a member of ALTCS—the Arizona
Long Term Care System—the first step to take is this:
the member contacts his or her case manager through the
program contractor. The case manager can then assist the
member in deciding if this option is best for the
family’s situation.
How do I know if my spouse or I qualify for
the Arizona Long
Term Care System?
You can call 602-417-7000 or toll free 1-800-962-6690.
From there you’ll be transferred to or directed to call
the closest ALTCS eligibility office, and someone there
will discuss your situation with you and explain the
eligibility requirements.

What is the Arizona Long Term Care System?
- The Arizona Long Term Care System is Arizona’s
Medicaid program for people who are either
developmentally disabled, physically disabled, or
elderly and need services at an institutional level of
care such as in a nursing facility.
- A member of ALTCS does not need to live in a nursing
home, however. There are currently 10,000 ALTCS members
who are elderly or with physically disabilities that use
Home and Community Based Services in their home.
Home and community based services are specifically for
people who need assistance, and are able to receive that
care in their home or in other settings in the
community, such as assisted living facilities.
