NEMT Broker Model


AHCCCS is currently pursuing the use of a non-emergency medical transportation broker. As such, AHCCCS would require that the broker:

  • Have appropriate Tribal liaison staff support;
  • Be statewide and will manage the Medicaid transportation program for Fee for Service members;
  • Not be a provider of NEMT services but contract with providers to complete these services;
  • Be responsible for authorizing transportation services and will coordinate appropriate transportation for member appointments and may also utilize public transportation;
  • Will establish type of transport, such as wheelchair van, and contact a provider in the members service area to transport the member;
  • Establish a single point of contact for members to request transportation and members will not need to search for providers.

Timeline for NEMT Broker Request for Proposal (RFP):

  • Publication of RFP: October 1, 2014
  • Proposals due: December 3, 2014
  • Contracted NEMT services begin: September 1, 2015

NEMT Provider & Process Changes:

  • AHCCCS is currently in the process of consultation with the Tribes to pursue the development of an ‘RFP’ for a Transportation Broker and as such AHCCCS is not expanding the Non-Emergency network at this time. AHCCCS will continue to post updated developments to the website regarding Non-emergency Transportation Providers.
