AHCCCS Integration Projects

As part of Arizona's Medicaid Reform Plan, AHCCCS is reviewing opportunities to further integrate care for the following populations:

Children with special health care needs;
Individuals with Serious Mental Illness;
Members Enrolled in Both Medicare and Medicaid (Duals)

Children with Special Health Care Needs

AHCCCS is working with various stakeholders, including families who receive services from the Children’s Rehabilitative Services (CRS) program, to create a specialty health plan that would manage care for medical and CRS conditions. Click on the link below for additional information.

Individuals with Serious Mental Illness

On December 9, 2013, The Arizona Department of Health Services, in coordination with AHCCCS, released a Request for Information (RFI) to seek input for an integrated health care service delivery system to provide physical and behavioral health care services to maximize care coordination statewide. Responses are due January 22, 2014. More information about the RFI can be found on the link below:

On March 25, 2013, The Arizona Department of Health awarded the contract to manage the Maricopa County Integrated Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) to Mercy Maricopa Integrated Care. More information about the new Maricopa County RBHA can be found on the link below:

AHCCCS is working with the Arizona Department of Health Services/ Division of Behavioral Health to explore the creation of a specialty Regional Behavioral Health Authority (RBHA) model with expanded responsibility for Medicaid members determined to have a Serious Mental Illness (SMI). The "Specialty RBHA with SMI Health Homes" model would be fully responsible for the delivery and payment of providing coordinated and integrated behavioral and physical health care through the use of SMI health homes.

For more information on the Specialty RBHA concept, along with background information on integration of care and how consumers and stakeholders can participate, click on the link below. AHCCCS will also post updates as information becomes available.

Individuals Covered By Both Medicare and Medicaid (Duals)

AHCCCS is working to increase alignment and improve service delivery for people covered by both Medicare and Medicaid. These individuals, commonly referred to as “duals,” are currently navigating multiple systems to receive care. More information is provided in the link below:
