ALTCS-EPD Update: AHCCCS to Extend Contracts Already in Place with Current Health Plans

AHCCCS members enrolled in the Arizona Long Term Care System-Elderly and/or Physically Disabled (ALTCS-EPD) health plans will continue to be covered by their current health plan for another year following AHCCCS’ decision to extend existing EPD health plan contracts through September 30, 2026.

Earlier this year, AHCCCS announced new contracts for ALTCS-EPD services that were intended to begin on October 1, 2025. The intended contracting health plans were Mercy Care, Banner-University Family Care, Arizona Physicians IPA (doing business as UnitedHealthcare Community Plan), and Bridgeway Health Solutions of Arizona (doing business as Arizona Complete Health-Long Term Care).

However, due to a legal challenge, a court issued a stay order that temporarily halts implementation of new contracts. As a result of the ruling, and in order for AHCCCS to provide continued ALTCS-EPD services beginning October 1, 2025, AHCCCS is extending its current contracts with Mercy Care, Banner-University Family Care, and Arizona Physicians IPA (doing business as UnitedHealthcare Community Plan) through September 30, 2026.
