With Federal Approval, AHCCCS Extends Waiver Renewal Submission Until December 2020

Five-Year Waiver Renewal Submission Process Extended Due to COVID-19

AHCCCS is required to renew its 1115 Waiver with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) every five years, and had been working toward an October 1, 2020 submission deadline for its initial application to CMS. Due to the pandemic, CMS granted AHCCCS a three-month extension. The Waiver renewal application, AHCCCS’ proposal to CMS that outlines the authorities the agency wishes to pursue, will be submitted by the end of the 2020 calendar year.

The Waiver renewal process includes a substantive public input process. Multiple waiver renewal public forums (either online or in-person) will be scheduled in October and November to solicit feedback from the public.

The approved 1115 Waiver is anticipated to be implemented October 1, 2021.

More information will be posted on the AHCCCS Arizona Section 1115 Demonstration Waiver web page and on AHCCCS social media channels as it is available.
