This incentive program is designed to support providers in this period of Health IT transition and instill the use of EHRs in meaningful ways to help our nation to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient health care.

EHR incentive payments are disbursed once per month after the State determines that the provider is eligible for payment and computed as follows:

Payment to Eligible Professionals

EP payments are predetermined based on a scheduled of 6 payments. Payments are disbursed on a rolling calendar year basis following verification of program requirements.

Participation years do not have to be consecutive but providers must begin participation in the program no later than Program Year 2016.

Payment to Eligible Hospitals

EH payments are determined based on a formula and disbursed over a 4-year period on a Federal Fiscal Year basis following verification of program requirements.

Participation years do not have to be consecutive prior to Program Year 2016 but hospitals must begin participation in the program no later than Program Year 2016 and continue to participate each year thereafter to be eligible for payment.

AHCCCS issues Form 1099 to payees (monetary recipients) of EHR Incentive payments. If an Eligible Professional (EP) is reassigning a payment to his/her practice, the EP is personally required to attest that he/she is aware of the payment reassignment and that the reassignment falls within the guidelines issued by the IRS.
